Understanding Needed Housing and Support Options for Individuals with I/DD who have High Support Needs
About the Study
Based on past Colorado data and anecdotal evidence, there are gaps in provision of support services and residential options for adults with I/DD who have high support needs. Goals of this proposed study include:

-
Re-imagine and create several concept plans for residential solutions for those with at least 24/7 support needs.
-
Present concept plans to service providers and housing professionals for feedback on tools needed to meet demand.
-
Provide policy recommendations to address barriers and disparities identified.
A full report will be published in Fall 2026.

Who Should Participate?
-
Self-advocates or their family members who require at least immediate access to 24/7 support daily to live outside the family home due to functional limitations to complete activities of daily living, specialized behavioral support needs, and/or medical complexity. In Colorado, this may be reflected as a SIS level 5 or higher.

-
Service providers who currently serve this population or who would like to support those with high support needs but are unable to due to regulatory or funding constraints.
